The Four Winds PbEM for V&V

New Year's Eve. The 1900s fade into history, and the 2000s begin. The last year of the 20th century begins with the noisy arrival of midnight.

Unaware of the time, Dr Leslie Walsh launches another iteration of her experiments. At midnight, she engages the power to fuel her multi-petabyte program again. A surge of energy fires through the experiment, then goes quiet. Again, nothing. With a disgusted sigh, Walsh shuts everything down and leaves the lab.

Meanwhile, around the world, a number of people suddenly stop whatever they are doing, and look skyward for a minute. Exhaustion sets in, and all they want to do now is sleep until morning.

Little do they know how much has really changed besides the date on the calendar.
